About Shot Caller
What is Shot Caller?
It’s a two-screen, interactive game that takes viewer engagement to a whole new level by giving Raptor fans the ability to make predictions and answer trivia, instant recall and poll questions about the game in real-time, from their computers. It enhances the viewing experience by giving the ability to win points, compete for prizes and earn a position on the leader board while watching the Raptors play.
What is the difference between predictions, trivia and instant recall questions?
A prediction is a question about a future event in the game that could have several possible outcomes. For example, ‘Which Raptor player will score next?’ Shot Caller offers a variety of predictions throughout a game and you may select one outcome from each. If you don't select an answer, available predictions will turn to 'missed' once they become unavailable or when the prediction window is closed.
Trivia is a question that tests your knowledge of recent events that happened in the game or past games. Trivia is factual and has only one correct outcome. The available points to earn on each option are equal and a timer is available to let you know how much time you have left to answer. You'll want to answer fast because more points are available to those who answer quickly.
Instant recall tests your memory to see if you can recall what happened earlier in the game. Like trivia, instant recall questions are factual and have only one correct outcome. The available points to earn on each option are equal and a timer is available to let you know how much time you have left and like trivia, there are more points up for grabs if you can answer fast.
What types of questions are there, and how many should I expect during each game?
Scoring will come from one of these 4 question types:
- 1) Pre-event Predictions (Approx. 3/game)
- 2) During Event Predictions (Approx. 40/game)
- 3) Instant Recall Questions (Approx. 30/game)
- 4) Trivia Questions (Approx. 10/game)
All questions asked during a game are added together for an aggregate point total.
Sample Questions:
Pre-Event
Who will score the most points?
During Event
Who will have the next free throw?
Instant Recall
Toronto beat Boston on Tuesday night. What was the final?
Trivia
Which player holds Toronto's record for most 3 pointers?
Do the points have any value?
Shot Caller points are used purely for entertainment and game play purposes. They do not have cash value and are not redeemable or transferable.
Is there a cost to play?
Participation in the Shot Caller is completely free!
Do I have to register?
Users who wish to be eligible for prizes must become registrants of Shot Caller.

Game Play Questions
There are different point values associated with outcomes for some questions. How are they determined?
For predictions, each outcome has Points associated with it based on the probability of it occurring. Points are earned by correctly answering prediction opportunities. You can use the point values to guide you in making your predictions:
- Lower point values indicate that an outcome has a greater likelihood of occurring. The benefit of picking a low-risk outcome is that you have a greater chance of winning.
- Higher point values indicate that an outcome has a lower likelihood of occurring. The benefit of selecting a high-risk outcome is that your prediction can win you significantly more points!
What happens after I select a response to a question?
You will see the bar that you selected from flip to the Past Answers view. If you click on the icon for a question you will see all the information associated with it, won, lost, missed.
Can I cancel or change my selections?
No, all selections placed are final, and you may only submit one answer per question. However, there is no loss of points or penalty for an incorrect answer.
Why would I miss a chance to answer a question?
The nature of real-time predictions is that at some point in time the event or scenario that the question is related to will become known and therefore in order to ensure a fair game to players there must be a "cut-off" where the question becomes locked and no longer open to predict or answer. This may at times appear random, other times it will be quite obvious as the event will have started and accordingly it no longer makes sense to predict "Will there be a foul before the end of the quarter?".
I am trying to find a question I answered but can't seem to find it in the Past Answers view
First make sure you have looked through all the Past Answer items. If you can't find a question that you are pretty sure you answered this might be because the question was canceled. Although questions are rarely canceled an example of when it might happen is if information regarding an answer becomes known.
Where can I see my answers to past selections?
Just switch to the Past Answers view.
How much time do I have to respond to questions?
If your prediction, trivia and instant recall answers appear to be ‘missed’ it could be for one of the following reasons:
- An answer was submitted after the point in which the context of the question was no longer relevant or information about the outcome will soon be known.
- A response to trivia or instant recall was made after the available time to respond. A timer is available to let you know how much time you have to respond. You'll want to answer quickly too, as more points are awarded to those with fast fingers!
How much time do I have to respond to poll questions?
The amount of time to respond to polls can vary. They can be open for the duration of the event but some may close more quickly.
The big rectangle in the middle of my screen, what does it do?
This is where you see images and info relating to Shot Caller. This shows images, video, facts and other cool stuff on display. It rotates between pictures and information as it's relevant in the game. Important or exciting aspects of the game will be shown here.
Why is my balance always 0 at the start of new game?
Balances are reset after a game giving you a fresh start and a new chance to compete to win prizes.
How are the point values determined?
The points associated with each outcome of a prediction are relative to the likelihood of the outcome occurring. The points associated with each outcome of a given trivia or instant recall question are equal across all outcomes because the actual outcome is known and therefore to associate a relative point value would be giving away the answer! That said, the points associated with given questions may vary depending on their difficulty.
How can I find out what the correct answer was?
The question icon will change to reveal that you were either incorrect or correct. If you were incorrect click on the icon to see what your answer was and what the correct answer was.
You can see how the results are shaping or what the finalized results are by clicking on the poll icon.
Where can I find the results of a poll question?
There will be an indictor on the poll icons that indicates if the results are final.
How do I setup Shot Caller to chat and play with my friends?
Click on the Groups tab and follow the instructions on how to setup and manage your groups. It’s quick and easy to get your friends chatting with you and playing in the game. A confirmation email will be sent to you after you have created your group. You can forward this email to all of your friends, or use the Invite a Friend area on the Groups tab to invite others to join your group.
I am unsure of which scoring option to select for my group, what should I choose?
There are a few different options to choose from when selecting the style of competition you want to have with your friends. Make sure you pick the right one for you and your friends as this cannot be changed after you set up the group.
- Cumulative—this scoring option takes the sum of all valid and completed Shot Caller scores for the duration of the Games. This is a great structure for avid Raptor fans who intend on playing each game. Each game is vital, if you miss one you may get behind other group members and catching up can be challenging!
- Highest Score—this option will look for the greatest single Shot Caller score achieved in a group during the course of the season. This option would be suited to competitive players who would try to play each game to get the highest possible score but could see themselves missing the odd game. This is a good option if you want to give yourself and other players in the group a bit of flexibility, while still providing a strong reason to play often! Players that do happen to miss a game or two are not at a disadvantage as there are still other games to play, where they can try to beat that high score.
- Top 5 games—this option takes the sum of the greatest 5 single Shot Caller scores during the course of the season. This is a good option for a group that might have some less dedicated players who are unlikely to commit to playing with all events but would be able to play a portion.
Can I play in multiple Shot Caller groups?
Yes! The number of groups you can join is unlimited!
How many people can get in a group?
There is a maximum of 50 players permitted in a group.
Leader Boards, Prizing, Contests
How does the in-game leader board work?
The leader board is frequently updated, and regardless of if you have a high score or not you will always be displayed with your name highlighted and your position listed. At the end of the game, the leader board will display who won the most points in that specific Shot Caller game.
How are ties broken among gameplay leaders?
For the all prizes, the breakdown is as follows: In order, the user with the most points from:
- 1) IN-GAME PREDICTIONS
- 2) PRE-GAME PREDICTIONS
- 3) INSTANT RECALL and
- 4) TRIVIA
If User A and User B tied with 12,000 points for the game and User A had 7,400 points from IN-GAME and User B had 7,150 points from IN-GAME then User A would win.
